A couple of days ago, I ordered the Book “The Fairies' Path” (Fate: The Winx Saga Tie-in Novel) by Ava Corrigan on Kindle and I have to say that the series make much more sense now because of a few differences:

The whole plot is still the same, plus or minus a few details either present in the book and not in the series or vice versa.

..............................................................................................................................

There are spoilers in this review, so if you have not seen the series nor read the book and would not like it to be ruined for you, please refrain from reading further.

..............................................................................................................................

The whole story is narrated through the perspective of different main characters, so, unlike the series, we get to know what was going on in their minds when certain things were happening, which explains a lot, and kind of makes up for the lack of depth of some characters in the series.

Regarding Bloom, her story is pretty much the same in the book and in the series.

Considering the amount of screen time she got, there is not much more to tell, except in the book, you get what she is thinking, why she said certain things, what she felt when being around Sky, what inspired certain of her actions…

It is still good to discover these trivial details, which make her even more enjoyable just like the series.

Stella is very much the same too, maybe a tiny bit less present in the books compared to the series, as there are some scenes in the series not mentioned in the books.

Terra is presented a not being socially adept in the book, while pretty enjoyable and bearable in the series. The difference lies in her thoughts and description of her insecurities in the book as scenes develop before her.

We also got thoughts from Musa, but none from Sam, Dane, or Beatrix. They did not get to narrate their stories.

In the book, we do not get to see what Beatrix does in secret, or in scenes where there are no Winx Canon Characters present: like her killing Callum, or freeing the Burned One…

In the series, Aisha is presented as this very strong character, teacher's pet, powerful yet not willing to break rules except for her friends, but in the books, she is all of that, but she is also a female version of a stereotypical jock: she used to be in a swimming team, she is all about "teams" and isn't that good with magic, a very important facts they failed to fully portray in the series. I mean She does save Bloom in the first episode with a fantastic display of Magic, she does strike a Burned one (who did not die in the book), the beautiful water tornado inside which Bloom transforms…, but what they did not exactly say was that she has issues with smaller bodies of water, or magic in general.

They tried to show it in the classroom scene, and the bedroom discussion with Bloom about being natural with Magic, or at the party with Riven, but when I watched, I never quite connected the two, as I thought she was just having trouble with that lesson in particular, not her having difficulties with magic in general. Which also explains why brownie points would be attractive to her, and sticking to the rules, being a teacher’s pet or betraying Bloom to stay in Farrah’s good graces.

Simply put, in the book, she worked hard to get into Alfea and had to work harder to stay in it. I do not know about you, but I absolutely did not get that from the series…

What surprised me the most was Riven. We learn more about Riven and get an idea of why he acted the way he did and the meaning behind his words, and behavior with Sky, Stella, Dane, Beatrix and the rest of Alfea Students.

It still felt like he was a one tone at time and predictable, his entire character and personality rotates around the fact that he is supposed to be a "jerk", nothing more, until the end of the book when things get interesting and dangerous.

One thing I absolutely did not like both in the book and series, is that they kept throwing bits that there was some sort of history between Terra and him without ever going in details. Apparently, they used to be friends even. Apparently, he “loves” plants and botany, like Terra. Apparently, he had no choice but to be a specialist and hates it....

Strange? huh?

And his behavior towards Dane is less cringy in the book, and kind of on brand with the feelings he had then. In the series he is presented like someone bullying Dane for the sake of it, while in the book he is doing so only because he likes to keep the few people who like him close to him, whatever means necessary. He does not like being alone.

Understand it is not better, but it beats whatever that is I saw in the series…

Farrah is a bit colder in the book, Silva is barely there, and Professor Harvey is very much patronizing.

They did not go any deeper about Sky either. He is a hero, and that is it. Barely any flaws, but I was glad to see in the books, he did not want Aisha to betray Bloom, and prevented Riven from spilling the secrets he knew about the case, which means He also kind of betrayed Silva and “Alfea” siding with whatever Bloom had planned even though they hadn’t made up yet after she had roofied him.

To put it in few words, the book is very much worth reading. I did not like the narrative style at times, but that is just a personal preference, and I might read the prequel to learn more about the characters before the series' events and see if some of them might surprise me as much as they did in this current book.

So I just finished watching Fate The Winx Saga Season 1 and I will first say that do I hope there is a season 2 because it was a fun watch...

I will try not to put any spoilers because this series definitely needs one to have his own opinion of the thing.

So here are my unsolicited ones:

First it is best to watch it having absolutely no expectations, not thinking about the cartoons, but being happy some things made it in because this is absolutely different.

Bloom: My favorite Character in this series. It is probably because it was revolving around her and I got to know more about her, better than the other girls...

Stella: She was something, wasn't at all what I expected. I love how they expended her range of powers unlike the cartoon, glorious

Terra: had a lot to say, some important parts felt a bit rushed or hushed, like there were some things relevant to be addressed, yet were wrapped up too quickly, leaving us to just guess or forget they were even there...

Aisha: I also felt the same for her, especially when she was struggling... when and how did she get over that? they quickly hushed the thing with Bloom's parts and I was like... what about her?

Musa: I liked her "normal" storyline in the first season, if you get what I mean... Of course she had troubles, but her storyline was peaceful, a bit quiet at times, but peaceful

Beatrix: I just need to know more about her, is she a fairy or not? for a moment I even thought she was related to Bloom....???? I'm confused

Sky: well... I guess he will have more important parts in season 2 because...I need to see more to like his character

Riven / Dane: Hm... I quite didn't like/understand them at all, not really, like why are they really doing what they are doing? Mostly Dane/Beatrix' "friendship" or whatever that was...

Farrah/Rosalind: They were a lot alike. A lot could have been avoided had some truths been told, but hey... Also are they light or air fairies? Farrah did say first year focused on powers one is born with, so it means they can access other powers too, which is a bit confusing...

The Boy Fairies / Girl Specialists: Nothing to say there... nothing to expect throughout the series... it was introduced as naturally as possible as part of the background, which is cool

Representation: Definitely Lacking...

Transformation/Wings: Unexpected but tbh, I rewound like 3 times, but am not a huge fan (For those who have seen Legacies, Landon's transformation, then you know what I felt)

The beginning of the transformation was everything, the middle and the end, not so much

Saucy Moments: There was a bit of teasing here and there, mostly covered by references of things that happened which weren't shown at all

Storyline: The thing is fine, it is good really, not exceptional, but good

Some characters had me wonder why they were even there, but it was very enjoyable and I have to say, I need to see more to love more... Bloom I loved already. So fingers crossed for s2
